FUEL OIL FACTS
Heating oil produces more
BTU's of heat than gas or electricity, at a lower cost.
Heating oil is
safe: You could drop a match into a bucket of oil and it won't
ignite. Heating oil must be vaporized to burn, making it safer than
natural gas or propane.
Oil heat is clean: It creates fewer air
pollution emissions than producing electricity or burning wood, near ZERO, in
fact. It is non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and biodegradable. Oil heat
presents a very low risk for carbon monoxide issues.
The
barrel of oil, as you hear discussed on the news, contains 42 gallons.
This was set in 1482 by Edward IV of England as the standard size barrel for the
North Sea's biggest product of the time--herring! The standard was first
used in the US in 1866.
